STFUP on Mommyish: Fetuses Using Social Media
Remember last week when I alerted you guys to my new column on Mommyish? Well, the second column is up! So go check it out! Or, read further to get an idea of what it’s about, and then go over there to read more!
I’ll be posting about my column each week when it goes up, but to keep things interesting, I’m going to try to use related submissions in my post on here that tie into my column over there. (And as mentioned last week, all of my columns over there will include content that’s never been published on the blog.) This week’s topic: Fetuses Using Social Media.

“Little Mommy”? Jeez, someone’s fetus’s inner monologue thinks highly of itself! Or something. Not to mention, I thought annoying parents-to-be wrote these “letters” to be cutesy, like, “Dear Mommy, I’m kicking up a storm! I love it in here! Love, your little baby”, rather than, “Dear Mommy, Blame yourself for screwing something up. You really effed up this time, didn’t you? I needed those goddamn prenatal vitamins yesterday and today and now you’re sluggish. Who’s surprised?! Not me! Love, your little baby who needs you to remember to take your freaking vitamins.” But I guess it turns out that Little Mommy/baby letters can be written about anything.
That said, I’m not sure what’s weirder, talking to yourself from the voice of your baby, or talking about your baby as if he’s already born:

This strikes me as odd. If I carry a picture of Johnny Depp in my purse, can I update my status to say, “Lunch with Johnny.” ? Because much like Johnny Depp won’t be able to take a bite of my Nicoise salad (which I always order when we go on lunch dates so he’s reminded of his home in the South of France), little Zachariah’s not getting much out of church considering he’s not even born yet. It just baffles the mind. But I guess what I’m wondering is, is this a thing? Are pregnant moms and dads now making a habit of saying they’re going “shopping” or “to the gym” with their fetus? Because if so….wow. I’ve got my work cut out for me.
