“You can always have stuff but you can only raise your children once.” Hm, very insightful, Orange! But, what if that “stuff” includes college and braces and other expensive “stuff”? I’m getting a little tired of hearing, “Oh you can have the EXACT SAME LIFE if you don’t go back to work! You CAN! It’s TRUE! All that income is going to go to childcare ANYWAY.”
Let me be frank by saying that I think it’s totally cool if you are a stay-at-home anything. I’m a stay-at-home writer and I definitely don’t plan on having a baby and going back to work in a shitty office. But that doesn’t mean staying home is the “best” thing for you OR your kid. And if it is, and you can swing it, then brava! That’s fantastic. But if it’s not, and you can’t, then nobody else should have a say in your decision. Especially not a P.O.B. like Red and Orange.
I don’t even know what Red is talking about in that first comment, but I know she took the time to post a picture of a pair of baby shoes and trash a working mother on Facebook for buying them. And then took even more time to scold her friend after her friend admitted she was hurt by Red’s preachy rant. All of this leads me to conclude that in the Great Contest Between Working and Non-Working Mothers, there is no clear winner. Just look at Red! She’s a SAHM and she can’t even maintain a civil correspondence with her Facebook friends. What would June Cleaver say about that?
