Something tells me Jennifer won’t be taking any wild trips to Prague (or anywhere else) anytime soon. And that’s not because she’s a mom, ‘cause I know lots of people with kids who travel both with and without their babies in tow. It’s more because she just doesn’t get it. She’s part of the group of “Americans [who] need to figure out this lifestyle,” as Erin put it, and I don’t mean, “…by not having kids.” I mean, “…by not making children the center of the universe.”
YES children are cute, tiny people who are equal parts amusing, difficult, and wonderful, but should children trump everything? Even the joys of Czech beer and atheism? Color me skeptical, but I’m thinking that while “nothing in this world comes close to a child’s love,” there are still, you know, plenty of things that come close to a child’s love. Tacos, for starters. Sure, your face gets covered in poblano sauce and pico de gallo rather than sweet kisses, but I assure you, the love I have for tacos is very real. It can be matched, but not surpassed. Tacos go really well with beer, too, which brings me back around to my original point: Jennifer, there’s a whole world out there! Sometimes a child’s love is the best thing about living, but getting to know a new city and culture can be pretty awesome, too. Thankfully, it’s not a competition. Different strokes to move the world!
